☆⭑ "We decided the album couldn't be called Led Zeppelin IV. Each of us decided to choose a metaphysical symbol which represented us individually." - Robert Plant

Growing up there were always different styles of music playing as background noise in my house. Most particularly older rock that my dad would play. Listening to rock music like Led Zeppelin has just stuck with me throughout my life. I think old rock is underrated and want to share my personal favorites and Led Zeppelins most popular songs.

Led Zeppelin, like many other bands before 1979, according to the Rolling Stone magazine, were ‘timeless’ meaning their music has happened to live on until the present day. Zeppelin was a mix of folk, psychedelia, blues rock, but mostly known for their development of heavy metal. Originally called ‘The New Yardbirds’, Led Zeppelin was formed in 1968 by Jimmy Page, the final lead guitarist for the British band ‘The Yardbirds’, the bassist and keyboard player, John Paul Jones, was a studio musician, and both vocalist Robert Plant and drummer John Bonham came from lesser-known bands.

"Good Times Bad Times" was Led Zeppelin's first song, featured as the opening track on their 1969 debut album Led Zeppelin. The song was on Led Zeppelin's first single released in the US, where it reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Jimmy Page explained some of how the song came together in a 2012 interview with the Rolling Stone magazine: “ John Paul Jones came up with the riff. I had the chorus. John Bonham applied the bass-drum pattern. That one really shaped our writing process. It was like ‘Wow everyone’s erupting at once.’”

Following their debut albums success, Zeppelin didn’t waste any time before they re-assembled and got back into the studio just five months later to create their second album including the infamous song ‘Whole Lotta Love’. Although Page’s lyrics weren’t exactly original and had many similarities with the 1962 track ‘You Need Love‘ written by Willie Dixon. The issue resulted in a lawsuit in 1985, which was settled outside of court in favour of Dixon. This song also ended up on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed for 15 weeks, peaking at number 4 becoming the band's only top 10 single in the US.

Their most iconic and well-known song is “Stairway to Heaven”. So popular that according to one urban legend, ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is played somewhere in the world   every few minutes. Released in 1971 the song appeared on the band’s fourth and most famous album, untitled but known as Led Zeppelin IV or Zoso, which showed only four runic symbols intended to represent the band members. Composed by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant  "Stairway to Heaven" was voted number three in 2000 by VH1 on its 100 Greatest Rock Songs list.

☆⭑ Psychedelic rock also referred to as psychedelia, is a style of rock music inspired by psychedelic culture, which is shown with mind-altering hallucinogenic drugs. The music is intended to replicate the intense, mind-altering experiences of psychedelic drugs like LSD.

☆⭑ Led Zeppelin broke up in 1980, just a few months after the drummer, John Bonham died.
