Meet the Newest Members of Tescott Schools

By: Juli Hunley

The 2020-21 school year has had an  interesting to say the least but with all of the new regulations (and dresscode), I'd like to introduce our newest teachers and how they feel about Covid 19 and the new school in general.

How is Tescott for you so far?

Ms. Wolf: "I think it's going good, I didn't realize how small Tescott was going to be so it was really a shock because I went to Ell Saline, which is a decent sized school. When I learned I had one student first block, I was like 'Well what am I gonna do with this.'"

Mrs. Cain: "I have thoroughly been enjoying my time in the Tescott schools thus far. There is a welcoming, caring, and supportive atmosphere that the faculty, students, and families project. I adore my students and their families, and have been excited and extremely honored to be a part of their growth this year."

Mrs. Adams: "Tescott is great! I am grateful to work and have my kids attend here."

Do you enjoy your job here?

Ms. Wolf: I do, I love it a lot. It's fun to get to know you guys and I think it's so cool that Mr. Kimmi is the principal here when he used to be my teacher. I love the staff too they are so helpful with me adjusting to summit

Mrs. Cain: I absolutely adore my job, both in the Tescott schools as well as residing in the surrounding area. I have a very passionate group of students this year that are eager to learn and lead. I have been enjoying helping my students harness and apply those skills in productive ways that they can be utilized both in and outside the classroom.

Mrs. Adams: I enjoy my job here very much. I love my class and am blessed to work with such a great group of kids.

Are you adjusting to the Covid regulations well?

Ms. Wolf: Well, yes but being new here anyways I don't really know what Tescott was like before Covid 19. It can be a bit hard to remember everything.

Mrs. Cain: The pandemic has been something I have been managing quite well. I believe it has provided wonderful opportunities for the exploration of creative teaching avenues, and strategies that can be used now and once the pandemic is over, also a way to truly bridge the gap that can happen between educators and home care givers. The rules and regulations this year help guide me to teaching the importance of personal space, healthy habits, and empathy which are all skills students can benefit from learning, just as much as their academics.

Mrs. Adams: I feel I am adjusting to the Covid regulations just fine. I am happy to help keep our school open to give students their best opportunity to learn & grow.

What college did you go to?

Ms. Wolf: I went to K-State in Manhattan and was there for about four and a half years. I also just graduated in December so it's kinda weird to think about.

Mrs. Cain: I earned my Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education at Kansas State University in Manhattan KS.

Mrs. Adams: Fort Hays State University

What is your favorite part of being a teacher?

Ms. Wolf: I think my favorite part, and it might not make sense, but starting a lesson and the students start to get more into the discussion so it goes into a different direction that I wasn’t planning but can still connect it back to the original conversation in the end

Mrs. Cain: I believe my favorite part of being a teacher is helping my students succeed. Every student has different interests, strengths, and learning styles. I strive on helping students discover their learning styles and then create engaging and collaborative lesson plans that will help them learn and grow. I also enjoy seeing that growth in every student and helping them take ownership over their own learning and growth.

Mrs. Adams: My favorite part of being a teacher is definitely getting to know the kids.

Why did you want to be a HS/GS teacher?

Ms. Wolf: Honestly, I didn’t really want to be a high school teacher more of a middle school but I do enjoy the more mature conversations and flexibility of being in the high school.

Mrs. Cain: I have always had a passion for teaching. When I was little, I would line up my stuffed animals and "re-teach" the lessons I learned in school to them. In the 5th grade, I was inspired by my home room reading teacher, who created collaborative projects that sparked a joy of learning that has never gone away. My goal is to ignite that same passion for learning and exploration in my students. To know that trying and failing should never be something to fear, and to know they will always have an advocate cheering for them.
