A Change of Art

By: Sage Srna

Although most of our changes this year are due to COVID, a unique change in staff has added new possibilities. One of these changes is a “new” art teacher, Linda Rickman. Mrs. Rickman, who is already teaching 7th, 8th, 9th, and 12th grade English, is now in charge of Art 1, 2, and 3 classes as well.

This year is Mrs. Rickman’s first year teaching art at Tescott, which she was really looking forward to considering her extensive experience. She first taught art at a reservation school for about five years, and then took a part time teaching job at an alternative school. Before coming to Tescott, she was the art teacher for five years at St. John's Military School. As Mrs. Rickman said she is “just continuing the tradition that I seem to have developed for myself for part time art teacher.”

Rickman told me that so far teaching art at Tescott has been a good experience. She stated, “I have found some students that are not only interested in art, but who have some talent.” When I asked

Mrs. Rickman how easy is it to tell who takes her art class just for the credit, she shared that you can

definitely tell by their work ethic during class.

Rickman explained that although she is unsure what she will be teaching next semester, she hopes to work with art again considering art education K-12 is her original endorsement and college major. Looking at Rickman’s work you can definitely see her style and passion for the subject shining through, inspiring our young artists here at Tescott Schools.
